Great fun and delicious fish and chips were had by all last month when Rowcroft were given the entire Hanbury’s Restaurant for the evening.

Hanbury’s staff were there to cook and serve their famous, award-winning fish and chips to a restaurant packed full of people who had bought tickets to this very special fundraising event. Guests enjoyed a 2-course meal, an auction and grand raffle, all of which raised £1434 during the course of the evening.

The event was organised by Nigel and Elizabeth Timbrell who put on many events to raise money for Rowcroft. They said “We were delighted with how the event at Hanbury’s went.  Lots of great food, a lovely atmosphere and a wonderful amount raised for Rowcroft.  We would like to thank David, all his staff and everyone who came along that evening for making it the success that it was”.  Nigel added “I’d also like to thank everyone who donated our various raffle and auction prizes including Finlake Holiday Park.” Nigel is Chairman of the Babbacombe and St Marychurch Friends branch of Rowcroft which has fund raised over £10,000 so far this year alone.

David Hanbury said “We like to link up with Rowcroft to put on fundraising events when we get the chance. It is such a vital part of our community. Although lots of people know about Rowcroft, there are still many who do not know what they do and the team at Hanbury’s like to support it whenever we can. We had a lovely evening in great company.” He added “Nigel and Elizabeth are tireless Rowcroft volunteers and do a really wonderful job. They put on many events throughout the year and I was delighted to be able to help out again with this one.” As well as the evening for Rowcroft Hanbury’s also hosts various other fundraising events throughout the year and is planning an event next February for the Torbay Hospital League of Friends.

Fifty-three people attended the evening with local celebrities, the Krankies, also supporting this special event and helping out with the auction.

Hanbury’s has undergone a huge refurbishment programme this year including the installation of a brand new kitchen in the Restaurant which means that customers, both in the restaurant and takeaway, are being served much more quickly. David said “We’ve had lots of positive comments about the refurbishment works. The new kitchen is working really well, people seem to appreciate the new, lighter décor and Hanbury’s has had a real spruce up in 2014. With the new additions to our menu as well we’ve had a terrific year and are feeling very positive about the future.”

In the meantime, Nigel and Elizabeth are busy planning more Rowcroft fundraising events including a special 2-course sizzling evening meal at the Babbacombe Inn on Wednesday 4 February. For more information or to book call Nigel on 01803 315634 or e-mail him at
